CLIC is based in Cairns - Australia's largest tropical region and is located in the Tropical North of the State of Queensland.
The centre of CLIC's operations lies in the Australian tropics between 15º and 17º South.ABOUT CAIRNS
Cairns is one of Australia's major destinations for domestic and international tourists and has one of Australia's busiest airports.
Cairns is surrounded by World Heritage Wet Tropics Rainforest to its west, north and south and the sensational beauty of one of the wonders of the world, the Great Barrier Reef to its east.
The region has a rich agricultural history of sugar production mostly on its lowland deltas and diverse agriculture and horticulture enterprises on its cooler tropical tablelands to its west, that include tropical tree crops such as mango, coffee, exotic fruits, table and wine grapes, maize, and potatoes and was once a major centre for the production of high quality tobacco in the deep red volcanic soils of the Atherton Tablelands.
Tourism in the Cairns region relies on its great gardens and landscapes. From golf courses, civic parks, resorts and private residences to the famous Flecker Botanic Gardens - Cairns has a unique garden and landscape style that is a clever combination that includes elements of a colonial past and its architecture, a massive selection of native rainforest plants and extensive collections the most exotic equatorial and monsoon plants. In combination with the plant raw materials are the talented skills of many tropical garden designers and landscapers who create the mood of the Australian tropics.
The Weather and Climate
Average monsoon (wet) season temperatures range from 24 - 33 deg. (December to April) Celsius and in the dry from 14 - 26 degrees. Highest temperatures usually occur in January and the lowest in June, July and August. The upland areas are cooler, with average dry season temperatures of 9 - 22 deg.
Many parts of the region have an annual rainfall that is as high as and sometimes higher than 2400mm. CLIC IS A LARGE SECTOR OF THE AUSTRALIAN TROPICAL LANDSCAPE INDUSTRY
CLIC was formed by the landscape and garden industry in Far North Queensland in June 2004 as a collective of lifestyle horticulture businesses, individuals and organisations that are involved with the wide range of the Australian tropical landscape industries.
CLIC is a cross sector interest organisation that represents as many individuals and organisations that are based in the business of landscape development.
CLIC also has one of the world's largest and significant concentrations of tropical landscape and design skills. Many CLIC members have trained in or relocated to this Australian tropical region. Many others have long and valuable experience in the region of tropical landscape construction and management. This means CLIC can provide a massive skills base that can be applied and adapted to any tropical climate in the world, individually or collectively by its many members. CLIC members are or have been involved in major regional, domestic and international landscape development projects.
CLIC is managed by elected industry members who form a Management Committee and set the CLIC agenda in consultation with industry.
CLIC will always assist members to maintain and improve their profitability in the industry.
CLIC conducts its own independent elections and determines its own policies and strategies.
A Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer are elected for one financial year term.. A Management Committee that can vary in number is also elected at an Annual General Meeting each year. The Management Committee considers many issues to do with the development of CLIC and how to service its members. Some of these include:
